THE HOLLAND INC. originated as The Holland Creamery in 1926. Founded by Jacob Propstra in Vancouver, Washington, The Holland bought milk from local dairies and produced some of the best ice cream around. The business prospered under son George Propstra eventually growing into a full-fledged restaurant. In 1961, The Holland opened its first Burgerville in Vancouver, soon expanding into the greater Portland area. Burgerville now operates 39 locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The company remains privately held, with Tom Mears, son-in-law of George Propstra, as President.

As the Burgerville family of restaurants grew, The Holland decided to pursue new initiatives in the restaurant industry. 1995 brought the opening of the first Beaches, a casual dining restaurant situated in Vancouver along the Columbia River. Beaches has since grown into a three-location concept providing pizza, seafood and pasta cooked in an open kitchen.

While The Holland and its family of restaurants have grown and evolved with the changing needs of the Northwest marketplace, one thing remains a common thread among all of The Holland's concepts: A love for great food and a desire to feed body, mind and soul!
